Living with a neurological condition, chronic illness, injury, or changes in cognitive functioning can be overwhelming — not only for individuals, but also for their families.

Adult Neuropsychological Assessment

A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning designed to better understand how your brain is working. Using standardized tests, clinical interviews, and a thorough review of your medical, educational, and personal history, we evaluate areas such as memory, attention, processing speed, language, executive functioning, visuospatial abilities, motor skills, and emotional well-being.

Neuropsychological assessment can help clarify or confirm diagnoses related to neurological, medical, and psychological conditions, including dementia, mild cognitive impairment, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury, ADHD, multiple sclerosis, and other disorders that affect thinking and behavior. The results provide valuable information to guide treatment planning, monitor changes over time, and support recommendations regarding work, driving, independent living, and other important aspects of daily life.

The evaluation process typically includes three appointments:

Clinical Interview: During the initial visit, we gather information about your medical history, current concerns, daily functioning, and personal background. This information allows us to tailor the evaluation to your specific needs.

Testing Session: During your testing appointment, you will complete a series of standardized measures designed to assess multiple areas of cognitive and emotional functioning. Testing is individualized and selected based on your referral concerns.

Feedback Session: After your evaluation is complete, we meet with you—and, when appropriate, your family—to review the results, discuss the diagnosis and recommendations, answer questions, and develop a personalized plan for next steps.

Child and Adolescent Assessment

Neuropsychological assessment services for child and adolescent populations include cognitive tests that assess attention, processing speed, intellectual function, and psychological function with a focus on clarifying a diagnosis of ADHD or autism.

Evaluation can help the child’s treatment team and school professionals determine appropriate treatment strategies and academic accommodations and to maximize their full potential.

  • Assessment is broken up over three different appointments, including an hour-long intake session with the psychologist to gather information about the child’s medical and social history as well as presenting problems to help build a suitable battery of tests.
  • The second session is the testing appointment, during which the child is assessed with several measures and may take several hours.
  • The third appointment is a feedback session, during which the child and their families will go over the test results and discuss treatment recommendations.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy is conducted by a speech and language pathologist and is focused on assessing and treating communication problems (expressive and receptive language) as well as poor oral motor control and swallowing difficulties related to neurological deficits such as stroke.

Speech therapy is often a critical role in the rehabilitation process and is meant to improve quality of life by enhancing language, swallowing function, and improving independent communication.
